Dragon product support for Microsoft Windows 8


Important note: All references to Windows 8 below relate to the full operating system only.?? Nuance Desktop products are not designed to operate on any tablet or smart phone running??Windows 8 RT, Surface RT or Windows Phone 8.

On October 26, 2012, Microsoft officially released its latest operating system, Windows 8. This article contains a list of supported Nuance applications, known issues and information about different updates for Windows 8.

*Please note that this information is current as of 2/26/13, but may be subject to change depending on any future updates to Windows 8 by Microsoft.

The following Nuance products are??compatible and supported on Windows 8:

  • PDF Converter 8
  • PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise 8
  • PDF Create 8
  • PaperPort Professional 14
  • PaperPort 14.5, 14.2
    • Note??– PaperPort 14.5 is supported on Windows 8.1.

The following Nuance products are not supported on Windows 8:

  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11, 10
  • OmniPage 17, 16
  • OmniPage Professional??17, 16
  • PaperPort 12, 11
  • PaperPort Professional 12, 11
  • PDF Converter??7, 6
  • PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise??7, 6
  • PDF Create??7, 6
  • All previous versions of software listed here as well as all other Nuance Desktop Software.


Planning to upgrade to Windows 8:

If you are planning to install Windows??8 on an computer with an older operating system, we recommend uninstalling your Nuance software before starting the operating system upgrade. Failing to uninstall the Nuance software before upgrading the operating system may result in program instability.

During the uninstallation process, an active Internet connection will ensure that your product deactivates and your license key will be freed up for usage in the new environment (this will help you avoid running out of activations).

If there is a problem removing the Nuance software, please use the appropriate Nuance “Remover Tool” to manually remove the software. Remover Tools are available in the Nuance Knowledge Base, simply search for “remover tool” under the corresponding application.


For Scanner and Digital Recorder users:

We recommend visiting the manufacturer’s website for the scanner or digital recorder to check for compatibility with Windows 8. Please note that some devices may not function properly in a Windows??8 environment, and the manufacturer may not have released a Windows??8 compatible driver. After encountering any hardware conflict, we recommend testing the device outside of the Nuance software.
